Grammeni Oxya – Portokali & Sarantaina | Peaks Project
On 19–20 December 2026, Wanderlust invites you to Grammeni Oxya, in mountainous Nafpaktia, for a two-day introduction to the Wanderlust Peaks Project. Two summit hikes, to Portokali and Sarantaina, one night in a mountain refuge, and a group with whom to share the journey and the joy of the ascent.
🔶 Your first Peaks Project experience
Do you enjoy hiking and want to try a summit ascent? Would you like to follow a mountain trail towards a peak and then spend the night in the mountains?

This weekend has been designed as an introduction to the Wanderlust Peaks Project. With two Grade B routes and the refuge as our shared base, it offers an opportunity to experience summit hiking and mountain refuge life as part of an organised group.
You do not need to have joined a Peaks Project event before. However, previous hiking experience and a good level of fitness are required to enjoy two consecutive days of hiking, lasting approximately four and six hours, including breaks. If you are looking for your first organised summit hiking experience with an overnight refuge stay, this weekend has been designed for you.

🔶 Saturday 19 December – Portokali summit hike
On Saturday, we depart by coach from Agios Antonios Metro Station and travel to Grammeni Oxya mountain refuge, our base for the weekend.
Our first hike starts at the refuge and heads towards Portokali summit. This is our chance to get to know the mountain, settle into the group's pace and share the first ascent of the weekend.
- Total distance, including the return to the refuge: 7.3 km.
- Elevation gain: +410 m.
- Estimated duration, including breaks: approximately 4 hours.
- Difficulty: Grade B.
After the hike, we return to the refuge to change, rest and spend the evening together, with time for food, conversation and preparation for the following day.

🔶 A night in the mountains
The overnight refuge stay is part of the experience. We stay close to our hiking routes, share the space and discover the simplicity and atmosphere of mountain refuge life.
We will sleep in bunk beds in shared sleeping quarters. The refuge provides heating, pillows and extra blankets. A personal sleeping bag is mandatory for every participant.
The group will consist of up to 29 participants and four group leaders.

🔶 Meals and breakfast
The refuge has a fully equipped kitchen, which participants can use to prepare their own food.
For those who prefer prepared food, meals can be arranged from nearby restaurants, and breakfast is also available, at an additional charge. Available options, prices and ordering arrangements will be shared before the trip.

🔶 Sunday 20 December – Sarantaina summit hike
On Sunday, we set off from the refuge towards our second goal of the weekend: Sarantaina summit.
Having got to know one another and found our pace on Saturday, we continue together towards the second summit with the guidance of our group leaders. Sunday's longer hike completes our introduction to the area and the Peaks Project experience.
- Total distance, including the return to the refuge: 7.6 km.
- Elevation gain: +460 m.
- Estimated duration, including breaks: approximately 5 hours.
- Difficulty: Grade B.

After returning to the refuge, we collect our belongings and depart by coach for Athens, having shared two days in the mountains and a complete introductory Peaks Project experience.

🔶 Weather conditions and safety
Mountain conditions in December can change quickly, particularly at higher elevations. Both routes are rated Grade B, but weather conditions and the possible presence of snow or ice may affect their difficulty and duration.
In adverse weather or ground conditions, the group leaders reserve the right to modify, shorten, postpone or replace any of the planned routes, with the group's safety as the main priority. Whether we can approach the summits will depend on the prevailing conditions.
All participants must follow the group leaders' instructions and remain with the group throughout the activities.
🔶 Cancellation policy
This trip is subject to the cancellation policy for excursions involving one or more overnight stays. By completing their booking, participants accept the Terms of Participation and Cancellation Policy of Wanderlust Outdoor Activities.
