Trekking With Your Dog in Steni, Evia

On Saturday, 24 October 2026, we will hike with our four-legged friends through the lush forest landscape of Steni, Evia, following an easy circular route in nature!

🔶 The activity

Steni, situated at the foot of Mount Dirfys, is surrounded by dense forests and is one of the most beautiful mountain destinations in Evia.

In this exceptional natural environment, we will enjoy an organised hike with our dogs, combining physical activity, contact with nature and responsible guidance from a professional dog trainer.

Hiking in nature with our dogs provides valuable physical and mental stimulation for both dogs and their guardians.

Participants without a dog are also welcome to join the activity.

🔶 The hiking route

Our hike begins at the road junction located just below the Elati Forest. We enter the dense woodland and follow the trail towards the mountain refuge.

From the refuge, we continue towards the mountain pass through Pyrgakia and Rachi Syka before returning to our starting point.

This is an easy, Level A route covering approximately 5.5 km, with around 300 m of elevation gain and loss. The route is circular, with a few sections shared on the return journey.

🔶 Training and guidance

Dog trainer Petros Sidereas will accompany us throughout the activity, providing the participants with useful advice and guidance.

A short talk and seminar will also take place, followed by a question-and-answer session. This will give dog guardians the opportunity to discuss matters relating to dog behaviour, training and their dog’s safe presence in nature.

Through the collaboration between Wanderlust Outdoor Activities and a professional dog trainer, this project is conducted in an organised manner, with particular emphasis on the safety of both people and dogs in the mountains.

🔶 Participation guidelines for dogs

• Retractable flexi leads and any type of choke collar are not permitted.
• All dogs must remain on a lead throughout the activity.
• Dogs should not consume a full meal immediately before the hike. Dog guardians will receive guidance from the trainer regarding the appropriate feeding time before the activity.
• Each guardian must carry sufficient water, a bowl, treats, the dog’s favourite toy and waste bags.
• An up-to-date health booklet or pet passport is required.
• Each guardian is responsible for their dog’s control, behaviour and physical condition throughout the activity.

🔶 Complimentary places for shelter dogs

Two complimentary places are available for dogs permanently housed in shelters, giving them the opportunity to enjoy an organised hiking experience in nature.

🔶 Transportation and carpooling

As transporting the dogs by coach is not possible, participants will travel to the meeting point using private vehicles.

A group chat will be created three days before the activity to help arrange carpooling for anyone interested. This allows us to reduce travel costs, the number of vehicles used and their environmental impact.
